Welcome to the school year!

Yay!  We have accomplished a week and a half of school!  It was a wonderful first few days and we worked so hard to complete our schoolwork.  I have a great group of students, I can already tell.

We began on a great foot by starting with Wonders and our essential question was "What can stories teach you?"  We read an alternative version of The Three Little Pigs, where the one pig reads a book about how to scare away the big bad wolf!  The students began to learn how to maneuver through Daily 5 and get their work completed.  Next week will be even better! :-)

In social studies, we read Chester, The Worldly Pig.  There was a surprise at the end of the book on Chester's body!  It is a great introduction to learning the 7 continents!  This topic will continue through the next few weeks and we will eventually have a social studies test on this.

In math, we began with place value.  The students learned how to use responders for math, which they loved!  It is very interesting to see how many students answered the question correctly and this helps me to alter my lessons depending on the response to a question.  We reviewed place value up to the thousands place.  Then the students needed to compare the numbers with the < or > symbol.  Keep an eye out for a quiz coming home!

Thank you to all the students for their hard work over the past few weeks!  I am looking forward to a successful school year! :-)
