This week we said goodbye to Miss Prettyman! We had a little celebration to wish her well. The students and I will miss her very much, but we know she is going to be an amazing teacher!
We began a new week of Wonders where we read multiple biographies! We read about Dolores Huerta, who worked for the rights of farm workers, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, who started the Special Olympics, and also Elizabeth Cady Stanton, the woman who began the movement for the women's right to vote! Wow, so many interesting people! Our comprehension strategy was to determine the author's point of view of the people that they wrote about. The students took a reading test on Friday, which will come home early next week.
The students chose a person that they are writing a short biography on. Ask your child who they have chosen. We have everyone from Harriet Tubman to LeBron James! How cool!
A highlight of the week was a visit from the author Michael Patrick O'Neill. He is an underwater photographer and uses the photographs to write children's books. Mr. O'Neill showed us photos from some of his dives and we learned about sharks, starfish, and shrimp! He had beautiful photographs!
The graph unit of math came to an end and we took our unit test on Thursday. These came home on Friday! Next we move on to area and perimeter! Our last unit....can you believe it!?!?
Thank you to everyone who came to our REACH presentation. The students were well prepared and learned many interesting facts about immigrants! :-)
