This week we learned more about life cycles of plants, and we planted out own Marigold seeds! We learned that planting them in egg cartons will help the Earth because the carton is biodegradable and will help give the flower nutrients. This was a great activity because it was also Earth day on Wednesday! We celebrated Earth day by promising to take care of our Earth by doing wonderful things like recycling, picking up liter, conservation electricity and water, and other great ideas. The students made their own Earths by using green paint on a blue sheet of paper. They all came out beautifully :)
In Wonders this week our weekly concept was reuse and recycle, so it fit perfectly this week! We read about ways to recycle, and even to make new things from plastic, paper, and also cardboard! We also finished writing our opinion letters to Mrs. Gansert on why our third grade class should have a garden. We used Opinions, Reasons, Examples, and Opinions (O-R-E-O) to persuade her to let us start one. We all worked very hard on these letters, and the research we found about gardening, the environment, and also teamwork really helped support our reasoning. Great work everyone!
We are very excited to start a new unit on life cycles this week! As you know, we are going to begin learning about Crayfish. Starting on Monday we will have Crayfish in our classroom, and the students can’t wait to learn about them. (AND have a class pet :) )
We also participated in Jump Rope for Heart on Tuesday, and raised a ton of money to help. It was a lot of fun and we all got so much exercise! Thank you so much to everyone that donated to our class garden. Our flowers are beginning to germinate, and we are very excited to start working on getting our garden started this week!
