Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

This week was different than our "normal" week!  We focused on a few Dr. Seuss stories, with one of our favorites being The Sneetches.  This went perfectly with our class discussions of segregation.  The students really enjoyed reading the book!  We wrote news reports to warn other Sneetches about the bad guy in the book, Sylvester McMonkey McBean!  The students thought of key words that a news reporter might use to warn people.  They really worked hard to ensure that they wrote their best warning.  We left some time for fun, too!  We made Dr. Seuss hat cookies and even played with oobleck!  Yay!

In science, we continued to discuss the types of clouds and how they are different from each other.  The students created a mobile of the cloud types.  This unit will continue with wind, next week!

Fractions were all around us this week!  Specifically, we looked at fractions on a number line and how to identify where they belong on the number line.  All students scored 100% on their math quiz, WOW!  Fractions are an important skill to know for third grade and we will continue to work with them throughout the rest of third grade.

Have a fun Sunday!
