Week of March 14th

We accomplished so much this weekend!  In social studies, we wrapped up our unit on learning about children from other countries.  Our final assignment was to write a letter to one of the children we learned about.  The students needed to include two differences and two similarities.  They excelled with this assignment.  We now moved onto buyers and sellers and why prices are set the way they are.  Look for TRADE FAIR information coming home on Monday.

In Wonders, we discussed how teams work together.  We read about rescue dogs and how they can do things that humans cannot!  How interesting!  The skills that were discussed were author's point of view, using context clues to determine the meaning of a word, and expository text features.  Another story was about wildfires and how there are pros and cons for them.  It was neat to learn that wildfires can be good for a forest and make new plants grow.  A reading assessment was given on Friday and will be sent home on Monday.

Fractions, fractions, fractions!  We used fraction cards to help determine equivalent fractions and ones that were close to zero, half, or 1.  The students even learned the difficult skill of making equivalent fractions by multiplying by a whole.  Fractions will continue before and after Spring Break.

See you Monday!
