Week of December 7th

Who can believe December is going so fast!!!  We began our new week in Wonders.  The essential question was "How can one person change the way you think?" We read about Jackie Robinson and Abraham Lincoln.  Both inspired others to think in a different way.  The stories were historical fiction.  We also focused on idioms all week and the students identified what the idioms meant. The students and I had some fun with those!

Our next writing assignment is writing a persuasive article.  The students came up with a list of ideas about what they would like to change or make better in Woodbury Heights.  The list includes a community garden, sculpture garden, dog parks, and an extension to the community center.  It was so interesting to hear the reasons why the students would like these places in Woodbury Heights.  We worked on finding facts from articles that would help support our ideas.  Right now, most students are writing their sloppy copy and we can't wait for them to finish their good copies!

The students and I also discussed the three types of volcanoes and made a foldable to help us remember the three types and their differences.  Eventually, we will be having an assessment on the layers of the Earth and volcanoes.

We wrapped up the multiplication unit and the assessment is in your child's red folder, along with the reading test.  Please sign and return both!  Thank you!
