October already!

It is hard to believe that October is upon us already!  I feel like we are getting into our groove and have been accomplishing so much within the first few weeks of school.  Our Wonders week was very interesting!  We read biographies about famous inventors, including Mary Anderson, Ben Franklin, Chester Greenwood, and Elijah McCoy!  Wow!  See if your children can name what these inventors accomplished.  Our comprehension strategy was focusing on the cause and effect that occurred throughout the stories.  On Monday, we will take a reading assessment, which will come home later in the week.  Our spelling test is also on Monday.

In math, we continued our addition lessons.  We added 2 digit and 3 digit numbers!  Wow!  The students have been using grid paper to keep their numbers lined up.  We took a math quiz on Friday and some students will be taking the requiz on Monday.  Those will also come home later in the week.

Personal narratives have been our focus of lessons this week.  The students wrote a list of ideas of events in their life that they would like to write about.  One topic was chosen and written about.  We will be publishing this piece of work to get used to going through the writing process.

The continents and ocean quiz is on Tuesday!  I can't wait to see how much the students know! :-)
