Happy Halloween!

A big thank you to the parents who helped with the Halloween Party, especially Mrs. Morris, Mrs. O'Brien, and Ms. Sloss!!  The students and I had a blast, telling ghost stories, eating, and just being able to "hang out."  The students had the opportunity to recite the Halloween poems that they had memorized!  It was awesome to hear all the hard work that the students had put into memorizing the poems.  I loved listening to them!

Don't worry though, we accomplished so much this week!  We wrapped up our Wonders week about immigration and took a reading assessment.  These came home and the students have been working hard to improve their scores!  I am very proud of the effort that they put into these assessments.  We began a new week of Wonders, all about government and voting!  Our two stories included facts and information about why it is important to vote and how Americans go about voting!  The students and I focused on the reading strategy of finding the author's point of view.  We discovered that the authors both valued voting and thought that it is an important part of being an American.  Election Day is on Tuesday and it would be a great experience if your child could go with you if you are going to vote.  It goes perfectly with what we are discussing and the students had plenty of questions about how you actually vote!

We also learned plenty of information about bats!  The students created a bat poster and cut out a bat, just for fun!  We also wrote a few sentences about Veterans, after researching what Veteran's Day is.  The students will read this out loud at our Veterans Day Program on Thursday, November 12th at 1:00 in the library.

In mathematics, we began a multiplication unit.  I taught the students about arrays and how this relates to multiplication.  We also discovered that multiplication is related to addition!  The students continue to show that they are learning their multiplication facts.  This unit will help students not only memorizing the facts, but also why the answers are what they are!

Enjoy Halloween and I will see everyone on Monday!
