November Update

The third graders would first like to thank everyone who was able to come to our Veterans Program!  The students worked exceptionally hard to learn the signs and memorize the songs.  Mrs. Gallinaro and I are hoping that the students will continue to learn more about Veterans and how important they are to our country.

In Wonders, our essential question was "How can people help animals survive?".  It was a very interesting week, where we read expository texts.  First, we learned that humans helped the bald eagle population increase, when there weren't many left.  Then, the students and I learned about a group called One More Generation, that helped to save Kemps Ridley turtles during the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.  Another story told about the success that scientists have had in saving the whooping crane!  Wow!  The students really enjoyed these stories!  The skills that we worked on were author's point of view, learning about suffixes, and asking questions about what was read.

Our voting process continues in third grade!  We are down to two candidates, Emily and Justin!  Next week, we will have a mini debate before we vote again!  We also discussed being compassionate, as this is the November theme for school.  The students wrote about how they are compassionate and why compassion is important.

Please continue to study the multiplication facts at home.  The students have been learning about how to multiply and some hints about how to figure out the problems.  We have been playing some great games and the students are beginning to memorize more facts.  Don't forget, that this website is great!
