Fun Filled Week

As always, we had another great week in third grade!  We had lots of fun this week creating our very own snow globes!  Each student was paired with another student.  They had to look up a winter weather term in their dictionary.  They then taught these terms to the entire class.  The class received their notes on each of the words.  The students were then given a challenge to write at least five winter weather terms in a paragraph that started with "If I lived in a snow globe..."  The students wrote their paragraph, created the top of the snow globe with chalk and black paper, and then added glitter!  The final touch came by putting cellophane paper over the globe section!  What fun we had!

This week also included the start of INQUIRY PROJECTS!  The students participated in a reading frenzy to help them decide which topic they would like to complete their project on.  The topics are: Volcanoes and how they work, San Francisco Earthquake, Icebergs and Glaciers, the Mighty Ocean, and The Grand Canyon.  Which topic is your child researching?  We then made turn and talk guidelines for what students should do when they are talking as a group.  Each group then did a little reflection to see how well they did at following these guidelines.

Just a quick peek into our classroom.  Check out the REMINDER page for some upcoming events at WHES!
