I am so sorry for the delay, but you all understand what it is like when you have a child home sick! :-) Joseph is feeling much better now!
This past week, we really dived into our inquiry projects. Each group worked on filling up their research journals with whatever information they could find. We had a very interesting conversation about "Home-Field Advantage." We compared what it is like for teams to play on their home fields versus away games. The class figured out that it is better for teams to play at home. This is exactly how the group members should be treated, as if they are at a "home game." No "booing" or put downs. The students seemed to get this concept. We will continue to research our topics and discuss what are good sources to use for our research.
In language arts, we began a unit about transportation. We have learned some new vocabulary, including transit and agriculture. So far, we read about a family taking a trip to Korea on an airplane, a very fast train in Japan, and the railroads in the 1800s. I know I have learned a lot of new information!!!
Our class continued to work on compound words, possessives, and suffixes. We made so many compound words with light. You can also help your child with part of speech. Students can continue to learn which words are nouns, verbs, or adjectives.
Exploring large numbers have been our goal for the past week in math! We looked at the US population and had to read the number out loud. You can check out the population here . It is pretty interesting to see how often the number goes up!!! We had fun watching it. Help your child read this number to you!
I can't wait to see everyone on Monday and I look forward to a fun week before our break! :-)
