Language Arts: We began to read different types of genres about the past and present. Some of the genres included poems, a photo essay, and non-fiction. We read about important females, including Susan B. Anthony and Amelia Bloomer. Ask your child if they remember anything about these two women. We also looked back at the telephone over the years and how it has changed. As we were reading these texts, we discussed how to monitor our understanding, by rereading or asking questions. We wrote a summary about the females that were read about and used the text to help us.
Writing and Social Studies: We continued to learn about Native Americans, specifically the legends that were told. I read lots of books that were about Native American legends that were pretty interesting. We realized that the legends included many things from nature and the outdoors. The class took our own nature walk to discover things that we might want to include in our very own writing of a legend. We brainstormed ideas on a web and then wrote our legend. It was even typed up on a laptop. Next, we wrote cinquains, using a made up Native American name. We also used nouns, adjectives, and verbs in the Cinquain.
Science: We discovered some winter weather terms. The class worked with a partner to look up the definition of the winter weather term. The assignment also included a picture, the word written in a sentence, synonyms, antonyms, related words, and part of speech. The partners then taught the class this word, which will be used next week to complete a snow globe project.
Thanks for checking in! Enjoy your weekend and see you Monday!
