This week we learned about the states of matter in science, and we even got to create the Oobleck from Dr. Seuess’ Bartholomew and the Oobleck! The students loved using their senses to determined what kind of state of matter the Oobleck was. We learned that the Oobleck was a combination of a liquid and a solid. We also started our Inquiry groups for Social Studies, and we will be researching the following topics: The Wright Brothers, the moon, tsunamis, and also Benjamin Franklin! All of these topics are included at the Franklin Institute. We will be continuing to work on our inquiry groups next week, and will be presenting to Mrs. Gallinaro’s third grade class the following week.
We read about some interesting animals that live in the Mojave Desert this week! Our skill of the week was rereading, and the students also had a lot of practice with comparing and contrasting.
In math, we started to compare fractions with same numerators, and also same denominators! We even created a rule to help us remember how to compare them. If the numerators are the same: then the bigger the denominator, the smaller the fraction. Also the smaller the denominator, the bigger the fraction! We will be practicing more the week after the PARCC test. The students have been doing a great job comparing fractions so far.
Mrs. Lizza has been doing a wonderful job preparing the class for PARCC next week, and making them familiar with all of the tools! We have full confidence that the students will do an excellent job :)
