Happy New Year! It is hard to believe that 2015 is here!
The third graders and I got right down to it when we arrived back after our long and enjoyable break. I enjoyed hearing about their breaks and about their favorite presents! The students reflected on the past year and looked forward to 2015, by completing a neat activity. We wrote about what we had learned this past year and what we plan to focus on during 2015.
We began Unit 3 in our Wonders series. Our essential question was "What makes animals unique?" We read folktales about how animals came to be or how certain animals have helped in situations. For example, a tiny inchworm helped save children who got stuck at the top of a very tall mountain. We focused on problems and solutions in these folktales. In writing, the third graders have begun to plan out an opinion letter to Governor Christie about something they would like changed in our public schools. Some of the ideas include more recess time, a different school year, and more space in our school.
In math, we continued our division skills! Next week, we will be wrapping up division and take a unit test. Look for the study guide to come home.
In social studies, we began the process of choosing a class president. The students nominated other students to be one of the candidates. We ended up with 5 wonderful candidates. These candidates wrote a speech, while the other students made signs supporting the candidates. We will have our election next week.
The following are photographs from our Winter Holiday posters. I forgot to post these! The posters were wonderful!
