Adaptations

How do animals adapt to challenges in their environment?  We read so many different stories about animals.  First, we read about African Lions.  The third graders then learned about the gray wolf and red fox.  We learned so many interesting facts about both!  My favorite story was about the Mojave Desert.  There are so many neat animals that have adapted to live in this hot, dry place.  In our reading groups, we also discussed life in a tide pool and the animals that adapt to living in the ever changing environment.  The students worked diligently to compare and contrast animals that live in those different habitats.  We wrote our answers on a graphic organizer, a foldable, and in complete sentences.

In writing, we began to practice for the NJ ASK in May.  We held a class discussion about the rubric that will be used to grade their writing.  The students paired up and carefully analyzed the rubric and some third grade writing. We had a very interesting conversation!!!

Our inquiry projects will be presented on Thursday, March 20 at 2:15 pm beginning in our classroom.  We hope to see you there, but if you are unable to come, please feel free to send another family member.

The third grade field trip is on Friday.  Please have the students wear their red shirt and pack their lunch that day!!!
