We have begun to do some formal preparing for the NJ ASK in May! Of course, everything that has been taught so far is going to help with the NJ ASK too! I gave out rubrics, which are how the writing portion of the test is graded. We carefully looked over the rubric to determine the difference between getting a 1 and a 5. After this, the students worked with a partner to grade a third grade writing. At first, we graded too easy and gave the paper a higher score than it deserved. Next, we graded too hard and the paper received a lower score that NJ scorers had given it. How interesting!
Our Theme 9 assessment was on Thursday and will be sent home on Monday. Please sign and return this. In spelling, we worked with prefixes & suffixes A LOT! Students are definitely becoming experts with this subject!
In science, we reviewed the water cycle throughout the week to prepare for our test on March 18th. I used a vocabulary wheel to give clues about each of the stages. On Friday, we created a tri-arama of the water cycle. Wait until you see them at Best of Heights Night! So cool!
We continue to discuss supply and demand, but are taking it to the global level. A class discussion was held about how products are traded from country to country. Each country needs to trade in order to get the products they need. This is all leading up to our TRADE FAIR. The letter was sent home explaining. Please contact me with any questions.
Don't forget to study for our Water Cycle Test on Monday! Have a great weekend!
