Ahh Sickness!

We are despretely trying to stay healthy in third grade!  I was very close to losing my voice, but the third graders worked with me and I am feeling much better and my voice is just about back! What a great group of kids!!!!

In Spelling this week, we worked constantly with suffixes!  We sang some new songs about adding -er and -est.  There are special rules for words with short vowel sounds and words that end in y.  Ask your child to sing the song!  We also played a game on the Starboard!

In writing, we continued our research of Martin Luther King, Jr.  We watched movies, read books, and completed timelines!  I think the third graders are becoming experts on MLK.  We even found photographs of MLK visiting the White House, how interesting! :-)

We continued our unit on "What is Light?" The Other Side of the Rainbow was a science fiction story we read.  The boy traveled to the other side and found himself in a world of black and white.  How interesting!  Vocabulary words were reviewed and Unit 3 assessment will be given next week.

A new, fun, and exciting adventure we started this week was our Class Meeting!  The class meeting includes reading our class rules, saying "good news/bad news", and learning a Word of the Day!  The students seem to be enjoying this and it is a good way to end the school day.  It only takes about 15 minutes of our day, which is perfect!  The students love the word of the day and earn "DOJO" points if they say the word during class.  Another new adventure is DOJO.  This website will be used as classroom management.  Students are awarded points for participating, being on task, and teamwork!  At the end of the month, the top students will earn "donuts & juice"..aka dojo!  :-)

Have a great weekend and I can't wait for Monday!!! I love third grade!
