Short Snow Week!

Crazy week!!!!  Even though the week was a crazy schedule, we still accomplished multiple items!  We first began a new Wonders week, which includes the essential question "What do we know about the Earth and its neighbors?"  Our first story was about the sun and we learned about how long it takes some of the planets to rotate around the sun.  Ask your child if they remember some of the facts.  Next, we read "Earth and Its Neighbors."  Once again, we learned some very interesting facts!  The comprehension strategies we have been focusing on are main idea and details and summarizing.  We continue to discuss suffixes and features of an expository text.

In Math, we continue to study shapes.  Symmetry is a skill that third grade students should be to accomplish.  Students need to be able to draw lines on a shape to show the lines of symmetry.  Today, we began looking into 3-D shapes and discussing their features.  The students built a square pyramid and a triangular prism.  Did you get to see them?  The shapes may be crushed in your child's backpack!

We continue to work on our inquiry projects and research our topics.  Be on the lookout for a date when we will present these projects to you!  Also, we will be traveling to the Franklin Institute to learn even more about Pompeii and volcanoes!!!  Keep an eye out for the date of that too!

The weather has kept us inside for recess multiple days these past few weeks.  If you are comfortable with it, your child may bring a board game or card game to play during inside recess.  I know they get tired of playing the same ones all the time.  Thank you!!!  Enjoy your weekend!  More snow?!!?!?
