Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you have enjoyed your weekend.
This week, we began another reading section with the essential question being "How do people make government work?" We read multiple stories about voting, including one that had lots of information about a kids group that encourages kids to learn as much as they can about voting. Another story included facts about voting. All texts were expository, which we learned is basically non-fiction. These types of texts include facts and special features, like a map or bar graph. I almost forgot! Our week began with taking our weekly assessment on the iPad! The students seemed to enjoy a different way to take a test. I am hoping that every once in a while, we can take these assessments on the iPads.
We continued to discuss types of nouns, including irregular plural nouns, such as men or children. There is a neat game on the Wonders website about words with silent letters. Check it out if you have a chance! In writing, we continue to work on strengthening and lengthening our writing. In third grade, we know that we must include paragraphs that are 5-7 sentences long.
In math, the focus continued on multiplication skills. Your children are becoming multiplication experts! I can see the hard work that they do at home transferring to the school work. We reviewed what arrays look like and how to make them and understand them. There is a special multiplication and division table that may help the students if they don't know a fact.
Don't forget...we have all half days this coming week. I look forward to meeting with you during conferences to discuss your child's progress throughout the first marking period. See you soon! :-)
