Wonders!!

We had a full week of our new reading program, Wonders!  I have enjoyed teaching using this program!  There is lots of repetition, so students have become experts at the genre fantasy, using synonyms to identify meanings of words, and thinking more in depth about characters!  We read three fantasy stories, Bruno's New Home, Wolf!, and Jennie and the Wolf.  All three taught us a lesson!  Even in our small group instruction, students read fantasies and learned even more lessons.  It was very interesting to see how successful the students were!  We had a weekly assessment today and the students did fantastic!  Please look for this to come home next week.

The students also continued to review second grade math!  We reviewed money, patterns on the number grid, and finding differences.  These are all things you can practice at home, especially money!  Our first math test is coming up next week as well!  A study guide will be sent home on Wednesday.  It will be completed and students can study from it for our test on Thursday.

Along with test news....our first social studies quiz is on Thursday as well.  A study guide was sent home on Thursday.  Please help your child memorize the placement of the continents as well as the other information on the study guide.  We will have some opportunities to study in school.  I know your child will be successful on this upcoming quiz!

Today, a special activity was held for students who participated in the Summer Reading.  We had seven students from our class!  How wonderful! These students had the opportunity to go outside, enjoy a Popsicle, and have some play time!  They were also recognized in front of their peers!  It was a wonderful activity as we promote literacy throughout our school.

Enjoy your beautiful weekend!  See you Monday! :-)
