Week of 5-6

I can't believe that the NJ ASK is upon us!!  We didn't spend too much time thinking about it this week, because I didn't want to exhaust the students right before the test.  We read some biographies, including Maya Lin and Jacques Cousteau.  The students started researching someone they would like to write a biography on.  Some of the people are John F. Kennedy, Aaron Rodgers, Buzz Aldrin, and Taylor Swift!  We did research in the computer lab to help us find the important facts about our person.

This week, we continued to review suffixes and irregular verbs.  Sometimes, you cannot add -ed to the end of a verb.  For example: know, becomes knew!  This was part of our spelling test, which will come home as soon as possible.  In the computer lab, we also write a persuasive paragraph about a topic the students think I should teach next week.  I read over the paragraphs and will announce the topic on Monday!  I think the students will love the topic that was chosen!

In math, we reviewed length, weight, and capacity.  We discussed the units of measure for each and found equivalent measurements for each.  The math section of NJ ASK is on Wednesday and Thursday, and I know the students are prepared!

We continued to study the crayfish and observe them.  2 out of the 3 crayfish have molted, ask your child!  After they molt, they eat their old exoskeleton....ohhh the joys of crayfish.  The students have loved observing them and some are even brave enough to pick them up!  I call these students the "handlers." For social studies, we each are assigned to a mini-inquiry group.  The students researched a topic and are now in the process of creating an iMovie to present their topic.

Thank you to all who brought in something for the military!  If you haven't sent in a t-shirt, please do that soon, as we will be decorating next week after the ASK.

Don't forget: GOOD NIGHT SLEEP ON SUNDAY AND HEALTHY BREAKFAST MONDAY MORNING! :-)
