February has flown by in third grade! I can't believe it is already over!! Don't forget that we are celebrating "Read Across America" Week and honoring Dr. Seuss! On Monday, please wear red & white or your WHES shirt! Tuesday is Foxiest Sock Day, Wednesday is wear your clothes inside out day, Thursday is Wear your Grinchiest Green Day, and finally Friday is crazy hat day! I can't wait to see what the third graders will wear!
This week, we finished up Unit 4, Week 1 of Wonders where we discussed making good choices. The students read "The Real Stone Soup." Some of the comprehension strategies were used were telling the point of view and asking questions about our reading. We also focused on root words that had prefixes or suffixes added to them. On Wednesday, we took our Weekly Reading Assessment, which will be sent home on Monday. Next, Week 2 began with the essential question "How can we share what we know with others?" There was a class discussion about our talents or hobbies that we can show others. It will help build our confidence or the other person's confidence when we teach them what we know. The students began to write a fictional narrative. We began planning the narrative by using a graphic organizer that included the characters, setting, problem, events, and solution. We are really using our imagination for this writing assignment!
We continued work on our inquiry projects. The students have begun their posters! Right now, we have painted the posters and added some photographs. The next step is adding captions to the photographs! We will then begin practicing our presentations. Be on the look out for a date when we will be presenting the projects to you! :-)
