This past week was one filled with snow! The delayed opening and snow day have pushed back our schedule a little bit. We had our primary election and Jack and Lori advanced to the general (final) election. This will be held on Tuesday! So exciting! :-)
In Language Arts, we focused on reading poetry this week. The poetry included free verse and limericks. The class read a few of each poem. I think that we liked the limericks the best. They were pretty funny! In the poems, we looked for the narrator's point of view, as well as learned the rules of each type of poem. The poems also featured similies, which are pretty cool too! In writing, we wrote a pretend letter convincing our parents and Santa to buy us a hamster for Christmas. This was based on our One School, One Book "Adventures of Humphrey." The book was so cute and we love Humphrey!
In math, we began to read and write seven digit numbers. Some of these numbers are difficult to read and write, but the students worked very hard. You can practice place value at home. We looked at the 2000 census and saw the population of some of the major cities in the USA. We read their populations and compared the seven digit numbers to other seven digit numbers. Next week, we learn some new place value, the small ones past the decimal! Tricky!!!
I hope you have enjoyed your weekend. We are going to be working hard next week and then enjoy the half-day on Monday, 12-23! :-)
