Advance & Alternative

The two words we used as our words of the day!!  The students advanced well towards becoming masters at using their words of the day in class.  Remember, students earn a DOJO point for using the word!!  I love how they try to fit the word into a sentence, even if it isn't correct! I am just glad they are trying and are enthusiastic!  Mrs. Miller's reading incentive continues to be a big hit also!  Students have been requesting to take small reading tests on her computer after they have read a certain book. Each book is assigned a certain number of DOJO points.  If they pass the online reading test, they earn the DOJO points!  Ask your child if they have earned any.

This week we took learning to public services to another level.  We discussed the certain offices in a city or borough hall.  There are multiple offices, including mayor, town council, city clerk, city manager, public works, and parks and recreation.  As we are learning about each, I am trying to have students think of what Woodbury Heights has to compare!  On Thursday afternoon, we all watched as a water dept truck passed by the school to salt the road before the upcoming snow!  :-)

Inquiry projects continue!!!  Our posters are now moving along and we hope to have them finished by next week.  On Friday in computers we continued to work on powerpoint slides!  I can't wait for you to see the hard work the children are putting into their work!  A date will be coming home for you to come see the projects.

In language arts, we continue to read about electricity and we have learned some "shocking" information about it!  We read Electrified, a story about a boy who was struck by lightening and now has special powers...he can turn back on electricity!  We each thought if we would like this power.  Ask your child what they answered.  In spelling we discussed a "tough" group of words.  These are words that include "ou" but the "ou" makes a different sound in each word: dough, rough, through, thought...  It sure makes learning how to spell words difficult!

If you haven't done so yet, please send in a cereal box for your child to use for our Valentine's Day card holders.  Thank you!

ENJOY THE SNOW!! *********
