What a busy second week of school we have had! It was filled with lots of learning and some fun in between!
Language Arts: This week we read The Big Fitz. Please ask your child what the story was about. We looked for Nonfiction features, such as labels, headings, and captions. With partners, we wrote a summary of the story. We discussed that a summary does not tell everything that happened, but the most important events. The class will continue to dive into this book through next week. In spelling, we worked a lot with long vowel sounds. There was a friendly competition to see which group could come up with the most long o or long i words. In writing, we have continued with narratives and focusing on good beginnings and endings. We are hoping to have our narratives published by the end of next week. During independent reading time, the students focused on thinking about their reading. Did they have a connection? Maybe they could relate to a character or event. Some students even learned something new from the book they read.
Math: We continue with review of things we learned in other grades! Our lessons included introduced the vocabulary of change, finding the difference, and calculator routines. We also reviewed money! You can continue to practice multiplication facts at home.
Social Studies: We completed Chester the pig! Ask your child what made Chester so special! It was a great review of continents and oceans. Don't forget to study for our quiz on Thursday, September 27th. A rubric for Chester will be sent home on Monday. Please sign this and return.
Science: We discussed mechanical and chemical erosion and the difference.
