Setting Goals

In our short week of school, the third graders focused on setting goals.  We discussed how it is easy to monitor ourselves and set our goals.  First, I began by trying to throw a piece of crumbled up paper into a trashcan.  I missed and had to change the way I threw the paper.  I made it the second try because I adjusted my throw.  Next, each of the third graders had a chance!  Ask your child how they did!!  This then lead to students creating a goal based on something students knew they could accomplish.  What was your child's goal?  We had a lot of different goals, including making baskets at a basketball game, not losing a "dollar" in school, and even beating a video game!  On Monday, students will create a new goal that can be measured in school.

As part of our goal setting, we also set a goal on which multiplication facts we were going to learn this past week.  Each student chose a different set of facts.  Did your child learn them?  I tested the students on Friday and found that many students had accomplished their goal!  Please encourage your child to practice the facts that they choose for the upcoming week.

In reading, we finished up Week 4 of Wonders.  This included expository texts about how we are inspired by nature.  Students really focused on summarizing and main idea and key details.  On Friday, we took our weekly assessment on the iPads, which I think most students enjoyed!

Did you hear about our assembly on Friday?  The students were introduced to our new "One School, One Book" program.  We will be reading another book with Humphrey in it, but there is a neat twist in this one!  A great time was had by all!
