Week of 12-16

During our last full week of 2013, we accomplished many things!  We continued to review singular and plural possessive nouns.  We read "The Mitten" by Jan Brett. The students loved the story!  Our activity was to write our opinion of the book, as well as color in all the characters and create a little stage for them.  The students presented their writing next!

In Social Studies, the students broke up into three groups and each was assigned a winter holiday.  We used the Internet to research facts about Hanukkah, Boxing Day, and Kwanzaa.  The students then created a poster about their holiday.  The poster included facts, as well as photographs and drawings.  We presented our posters to Mrs. Gallinaro's class on Friday and I know I learned so much about holidays I knew nothing about.  I hope your child feels the same way!!!

In math, we continued with decimals.  We even began to introduce decimals to the thousandths place.  On Friday, we played decimal top it, a very simple game that you can play at home.  Don't forget to keep practicing multiplication and division at home over break!  Thank you!

I hope that everyone enjoys their Winter Break and has a great time spending time with your family!  The students have worked hard for the first half of the school year and I can't wait to see their improvement during the second half!  We are going to be covering a lot and LEARNING SO MUCH!!! :-) HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!
