December has started!!!

I can hardly believe that December is here already!  The third graders have been working incredibly hard that time has just flown by.  We have been whipping through the weeks and focusing on author's point of view, rereading, and suffixes and prefixes.  One week, our stories focused on voting while the next week's had a focus of endangered animals and how humans can help them survive.  In all the stories, the author had a point of view about the topic and the students had to find the point of view right in the text.  This was a tricky skill, but the students worked so hard on it! We also learned the meaning of a few prefixes and suffixes.  This helps us as we are reading to understand the meaning of certain words.  Don't forget, your child can log onto the Wonders Website and share the stories we have read with you.  There are some really interesting stories!

In math this week, we took our Unit 4 assessment.  The focus was multiplication and division.  Please continue to practice these at home!  I hope you saw the improvement in your child's score on the timed multiplication and division test. In Unit 5, we will have a focus on big numbers and practicing place value.

On Monday, we will have our primary election.  Our 4 candidates are Jack, Justin, Lori, and Mia.  The 4 candidates will be narrowed down to 2 for our general election.  How exciting! :-)

Don't forget...it is very important that students turn in completed homework each day!  Students must be reading all directions for homework.  Also, the reading and multiplication log is not optional.  I do take away money from students if they don't turn in their homework and log.  However, money is also given to students who do turn in homework.  Thank you for understanding.
