Happy Friday!!!
Boy do I love third grade!!! I had so much fun teaching about Martin Luther King, Jr. The third graders really started understanding how important MLK was to America and the importance of how he fought with his words, not violence! The students collected facts about him and wrote a 5 paragraph essay about him. We first organized our thoughts on an organizer and then used this to write our essay. This insured that our essay was organized and including all the information we learned. Wait until you see the final result!!
Once again, suffixes were reviewed! The students really love the reminder songs. Practice is making perfect when it comes to the rules of suffixes. This week, we really focused on -ed and -ing.
In reading, we completed Unit 3 and took the assessment, which I hope your child showed you and you signed. We are now on Unit 4, which is about electricity. We have read Thunder Cake, an interesting story about how a grandmother occupies her granddaughter during a thunder storm. As a class, we read Franklin's Spark which included how Ben Franklin completed his electricity experiment. So INTERESTING!
In math, we continue to discuss all things having to do with rays, line segments, shapes, angles, vertices, and polygons. This will continue next week as well!!
Third graders also completed a unit on Public Services. We also continue to work on our inquiry circles, including making a powerpoint presentation in computers!
As always, I can't say enough about how much I enjoy coming to class each day and being with your child! Have a great long weekend!
