Week of 10-1

What a busy week we have had! I can't believe we are already through the first week of October! If you would like to order books from Scholastic please see the link in the previous entry.  Don't forget that Monday is Columbus Day so I will see your child on Tuesday!

LAL & Science:  This week, we combined Science and reading.  We read Into the Volcano and discussed the difference between fact and opinion.  The students all the facts wrote in their Reading Journal.  We watched many videos online and discussed volcanoes in depth.  After we collected many facts, we transferred the facts onto a Volcano Fact Page.  Ask your child about it!

Social Studies:  We continue to practice the cardinal and intermediate directions.  You can always discuss this at home.

Math:  We continue to review information that was introduced in first and second grade.  We worked a lot with addition and subtraction facts.  I would say that the most fun thing we did were fact extensions!  Mrs. Miller came up with a great idea to make hair fact extensions.  The students wrote a fact on a long piece of paper and then we clipped it into our hair.  We then danced to "Whip Your Hair."  :-)  It was pretty funny!

This was also RESPECT week.  In class, each child wrote a paragraph about bullying.  We reviewed what a paragraph should look like and then wrote our bullying paragraph.  Each child worked hard and it was very interesting to hear what they had to say.
